Opinion Editorial

As an author I am passionate about the different outlets of information and ways communicated especially in experiences of domestic abuse. One of my inspirational authors is Shelley Flannery who wrote the article ‘A Narcissistic Abuser Will Never Change’, discusses a Narcissistic person and their signs and traits of abuse.(DomesticShelters.org, https://www.domesticshelters.org/articles/identifying-abuse/a-narcissistic-abuser-will-never-change). Flannery discusses very distinctly and eloquently the important red flags of narcissism including interviews with other authors who’ve written about domestic abuse and narcissists. Their information provides awareness to victims to be able to build back a healthier perspective of self and separate from the abuse. This information brings insight into the narcissistic personality- seeing through the illusion they build- which becomes a powerful way a victim can remain mentally and emotionally strong and vigilante in not allowing the abuse by anyon...

Media and Social Change

Today’s society is so easily swayed with media -whether it’s legitimate news or hearsay and speculation by someone within the industry or politicians.Through the COVID pandemic in 2020 there is huge shift and change in social media as viewers and news programs focused on COVID being the biggest story with constant on screen updates. There is divergence in the news and where the informations accuracy is being questioned. This originally stemmed from politicians specifically Trump and his naive comment regarding using bleach/disinfectant be injected into humans as a possible cure. The details of this problem started with Trump questioning the severity of COVID with Fauci - causing many Americans to question and doubt the science professional. Through his lack of knowledge yet his prestige self image - many American's were easily swayed to follow Trumps ideals and beliefs. This caused a worry that public would actually take Trumps words as a truth and inject themselves with lethal toxi...

Trump- Injecting Misinformation

With the White House Press Conference that took place on April 23, 2020, Donald Trumps' speech shocked many Politicians and Americans by encouraging the use of injecting disinfectants into the body as a solution/cure to COVID 19. Trump’s statement was inaccurately based off mentions by top health advisors’ studies regarding how bleach fights Covid. One speaker in particular- William Bryan (undersecretary for science and technology at the Department of Homeland Security) presented the idea of using disinfectants which Trump in turn declared on national television how health officials should study the injection of bleach and using disinfectants to treat COVID-19 in patients. Trump discusses (without accurate knowledge/information) how the disinfectant should somehow be injected into the body. This brought about a scandal regarding the Presidents mental/moral capabilities as well as the CDC’s competency in solving the crisis. This sewed seeds of doubt among Americans as this informati...

Introspection on the Negative/Positive Effects of Digital Gaming

Through the changes in technology the gaming industry has risen to astounding creative abilities and capabilities that allowed a new social world and learning element through the growing computer/console gaming industry - in my own studies and insight I review the negative and positive effects of Digital gaming. The Negative effects regarding digital gaming stems from games such as the controversial role-playing game called ‘Active shooter’ (which puts players as first-person gunman) this game provides the ability to freely use a gun and shoot people. This I fear has reached the youth in a way which normalizes and almost numbs those to the true cause and effects of the realities regarding violence. The types of digital games spans the world and allows freedom to engage in these activities that otherwise is illegal and morally wrong. In scope of gaming content- with a good storyline (ie Mass Effect or Star Wars) the shooting is balanced and justified by the story of good versus evil and...

Perception of 'The Guilty' (Movie, 2021)

‘The Guilty’( 2021), is an ‘R’ rated film where all the scenes take place on a single morning in a 911 dispatch center. Call operator Joe Baylor (Jake Gylenhaal) is answering 911 calls from various people showing the intensity and also the dreariness of being a dispatcher for 911. One of these calls -which is the focus of the whole movie- he attempts to save a woman caller who’s abducted and in serious danger - only to discover all isn’t as it seems and him realizing the only way out is the truth. One of the prominent scenes in the movie is when Joe finally gets ahold of the female caller after she had gone silent- in this scene he finds out she has mental health issues which changes the whole dynamic and perspective of the movie - from victim to suspect. Through this you’re provided insight into the troubling challenges and stress involved in being a 911 dispatcher and the choices to make personally to professionally. This lead to a portion of the movie where it seemed to keep the rea...

Shift in Paradigm - The Music Industry

From the emergence of music in the 1930’s until today there has been a big shift and change in the access of music as a listener, as well as musicians using digital studios. The invention of the internet and the advancement of software/hardware has provided and opened new opportunities for musicians to share and create their music without the record labels. The role of file sharing/streaming and the emergence of technology has created a unique stage for artists achieving their own independent label and making money from their creations. This change had its own concerns and issues in the music industry regarding file sharing such as unchecked streaming services as well as worry over recording/sound quality. New technology such as the iPhone/iPad (Apple’s first iPhone released June 2009) as well as software advances of Logic Pro/FLStudio were a stepping stone for change in the music industry - with the recording quality sounding and working the same as a studio, listeners can’t tell the ...

Journalism: A bit of History- from the Old into the New

In the late 1800’s Yellow Journalism became the forerunner of papers- this is due to them being more affordable to everyday people.   This brings to question what are the two main features in yellow journalism? Sensationalism and Investigation- through Sensationalism we see stories that are over dramatized, insincere and often made up and inaccurate. Through investigative journalism there is truth seeking and exposing businesses, corruption or people. In the 1890’s two newspaper tycoons (Pulitzer and Hearst) were in competition for readers. This questions- how Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst contributed to newspapers history? Joseph Pulitzer treated advertising as a form of news with free and plain writing to include maps so immigrants and working class can obtain and be able to understand stories. Pulitzer included a women column, advice pages and stories regarding crime and sex. After William Randolph Hearst bought his paper he took with him Pulitzer’s editors and wri...
