Perception of 'The Guilty' (Movie, 2021)
‘The Guilty’(2021), is an ‘R’ rated film where all the scenes take place on a single morning in a 911 dispatch center. Call operator Joe Baylor (Jake Gylenhaal) is answering 911 calls from various people showing the intensity and also the dreariness of being a dispatcher for 911. One of these calls -which is the focus of the whole movie- he attempts to save a woman caller who’s abducted and in serious danger - only to discover all isn’t as it seems and him realizing the only way out is the truth.
One of the prominent scenes in the movie is when Joe finally gets ahold of the female caller after she had gone silent- in this scene he finds out she has mental health issues which changes the whole dynamic and perspective of the movie - from victim to suspect. Through this you’re provided insight into the troubling challenges and stress involved in being a 911 dispatcher and the choices to make personally to professionally. This lead to a portion of the movie where it seemed to keep the reality of a 911 dispatcher job a bit skewed - I don’t think the officers and his team would react the way they did to him. He went storming around the office, threw tantrums towards co-workers and hid away from everyone in the conference room to use a computer and headset. Other co-workers would inquire if he is ok- and instead of telling them about the 911 abduction call he was on he hid the information and kept it a secret. This I found odd because I am assuming a supervisor/manager would be involved in an abduction call. Perhaps it was to cause the viewer to feel caged and trapped in the situation along with him- In the end he is able to complete the 911 call and save the woman.
In conclusion, I immensely enjoyed the movie and Jake Gylenhaal acting as Joe Baylor was superb in this fast paced intense drama. The plot was beautifully laid out to where you are an un-suspecting viewer thrown into it with an unexpected turn of events. This unexpected turn changes the whole perspective of the movie and point of view regarding Joe Baylors character and importance of discernment as a 911 dispatcher.

Glad you really liked the movie you reviewed, your passion for it is evident and makes me want to see it too. This is a professionally written review, with plenty of plot summary but also gives your opinion of different elements that were successful and not so much, with evidence to back it up. You give just enough to make me motivated to seek it out, but not so much that it's not worth seeing it. Nice work.
